NANS DESCRIBES REVOLUTION NOW PROTEST AS A COUP AGAINST NIGERIA GOVERNMENT

National Association of Nigeria Student NANS has described the revolution mow protest has a coup against a legitimate government of Nigeria in statement signed by Comrade Umar Farouk Lawal (Aluta Fakky) ,the Zonal Coordinator, NANS Zone A titled Revolution Now: Our Position.

Fakky states that NANS is circumstantially duty bound as stakeholders in the Nigerian project to at all times take a position on issues of national significance particularly those that bordering on Nigeria’s fragile national unity. Saying, there will be no compromise when it comes to putting the nation first and above any other consideration, it is Nigeria first and Nigeria always.

He statement further reads “It is without doubt that our nation is going through series of challenges ranges from insurgency, banditry to armed robbery and kidnapping resulting from many years of misgovernance but calling for revolution is akin to coup d’etat against a legitimate government of Nigeria. It is a call for chaos and civil unrest to topple the duly democratically elected Muhammadu Buhari led admnistration.”

He also recall the right of citizens to protest but dispels the call for violence “We recognise the inalienable rights of citizens to protest against perceives government inability to cater for the security and wellbeing of its people but that right can’t be absolute in calling for violent overthrow of government. Change of government should be via the constitutionally guaranteed means such as through the ballots or impeachment proceedings of the national assembly.”

The statement also commend the Department of State Security (DSS) for professionalism in handling this threat to national security and also urge President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to as a matter of urgency must comes up with other social intervention programmes to complement the existing ones
